State Superintendent Tony Evers praised Wabeno Elementary for being among 178 schools in the state that received Wisconsin Title I School of Recognition honors for the 2016-2017 school year during a special May 1 ceremony at the State Capitol in Madison.
The School District of Wabeno Area’s Elementary School was recognized at the ceremony for “Beating the Odds”. The schools that earned this recognition must have met the state’s test-participation, attendance, and dropout goals as well as additional award criteria. Wabeno Elementary School met the additional criteria by being a school which is in the top 25 percent of high-poverty schools in the state and has above average student achievement in reading and mathematics when compared to schools from similarly sized districts, schools, grade configurations, and poverty levels.
