Florence Library to celebrate 30-year anniversary

The Florence County Library will be holding an open house on Tuesday, Oct. 3 from 4 – 6 p.m. to celebrate 30 years as an institution in Florence.

At the direction of the Florence County Board of Supervisors, the Florence County Public Library Planning Committee began meeting in October of 1986 to evaluate the county’s library needs.  The committee was formed because the lack of a public library was “restricting learning opportunities for residents and denying them access to state and federal funds and use of the state interlibrary loan network.”  It was pointed out by the WI Department of Public Instruction that Florence Co. was the only county in the state without a public library system.
