Crystal Bell Inn and Spa offers a glimpse of Wabeno history

Richard D Ackley Jr.

Whether it’s sitting by the comfort of a fire with a glass of wine in luxurious surroundings or simply relaxing in a spa; the Crystal Bell Inn and Spa bed and breakfast in Wabeno offers the romance of a private resort or a restful family get-away. Nestled on top of the hill at 4226 River Street, this turn-of-century Victorian estate sits surrounded by massive ancient trees.

The mansion has direct connections to the early lumber industry of northeastern Wisconsin and it was important for it to be restored to its original glory, according to Donna Ver Voort. Current owners Mike and Donna Ver Voort take special pride in sharing the rich local history of the mansion with visitors and customers. “We just wanted to bring it back and we kept the entire house as close to original as possible,” said Donna. Originally built as a family home in 1908 and restored 21 years ago, the mansion has some 6,500 square feet and is three stories tall.
