The 2018 Winter Olympics begin on Thursday in Pyeongchang, South Korea, with a Florence native representing the United States in the ski jumping event.
Nita Englund, 25, and a 2010 Florence High School graduate, has been soaring to new heights ever since she was three years old.
“My mom is an avid skier, so I grew up on cross country skiing, alpine skiing, and just plodding around in the woods,” said Englund.
Now living and training in Slovenia, a country in central Europe known for its mountains, outdoor recreation and ski resorts, Englund has been competing throughout Europe.
