The City of Niagara was recently awarded a Rural Development Grant for upgrades to police equipment. The grant funds of $50,000 plus $20,829 matching funds from the City of Niagara were used to purchase a new 2018 Ford Explorer SUV with police package. Additional equipment purchased with the grant funds include radio upgrades, software and computer upgrades and several other equipment updates.

This is the second grand awarded to the City of Niagara through Rural Development Grants. The first grant was used to purchase the 2015 squad car, computers, thermal printers, radar units and portable radios.

The police department is also receiving reimbursement for body armor through the Bulletproof Vest Partnership offered by the U.S. Department of Justice initiative and the Bureau of Justice Assistance.
