Utility crews have been working around the clock to restore power and repair damage caused by a string of severe thunderstorms that hit much of northern Wisconsin between Sunday afternoon and Tuesday morning.

In the area served by Florence Utility Commission, Director Bob Friberg estimates a total of 1200 to 1300 customers were without power at the peak of the storms Sunday night.

According to Friberg, five crews from Florence were assisted by two Crystal Falls crews to clean up damage from lightning strikes and high winds that caused “literally hundreds” of downed trees, making just getting through roads extremely difficult.
