Honoring long-time Florence County employee George Folz, who was a key player in the Spread Eagle Barrens Development team, family members gathered last week for the dedication of a pond in his honor.

Spearheaded by Zoning Administrator Rich Wolosyn, the effort to designate several unnamed bodies of water in the county began in early 2015 with an application to Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Geographic Names Council.

“Naming this small body of water in memory of George Folz, as Folz Pond, would show his surviving family members and members of the public the appreciation for all the work George completed,” said Wolosyn.
