HAZMAT called to scene of semi spill

A semi-trailer carrying a load of fertilizer tipped over while attempting to navigate a turn from US 2 onto Montgomery Lake road on the morning of Monday, June 26. At 10:41 a.m., Florence County Sheriff’s Office 911 dispatch got the call reporting that the truck had spilled a large quantity of fertilizer on the ground and that there was diesel fuel leaking from the semi.

Florence County Fire Department, Rescue and HAZMAT, as well as the Wisconsin DNR and Aurora Fire Department were called to the scene and were able to clean up the spills quickly without incident. According to witnesses, it was a single-vehicle, low-speed accident and there were no injuries to the driver or passenger.

The incident remains under investigation.
