DNR fish biologist to speak Aug. 2

Greg Matzke, Florence County’s Department of Natural Resources fish biologist will speak at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, at the Florence Natural Resource Center.

Matzke started his position here in 2010, and since his arrival he has surveyed nearly every lake larger than 50 acres, with boat access, in Florence County. The findings from his fisheries assessments have been the basis for many changes to fishing regulations, the DNR’s fish stocking strategy, and many unique projects that have been or will be conducted in Florence County.

Matzke’s ultimate goal is to use science to make fishing better in our area. You are invited to join us for a presentation which is designed to educate the audience about the diverse fisheries here in Florence County. Florence County Lakes and Rivers Association (FCLARA) is sponsoring this event. Greg’s previous talks have been interesting, informative, and have drawn a large audience. The event is free and open to the public.
