Rickaby looks to take on new role

A familiar name will be on the ballot on Aug. 14, but not for the office he’s held for the past 29 years. Sheriff Jeff Rickaby is retiring from his post as sheriff, but hopes to continue to serve Florence County in another capacity: as coroner.

Mary Johnson has held the office for many years, but has decided to pass the baton.

“The current coroner wished to retire and asked me to run because she trusted me,” said Rickaby. “I felt being coroner would allow me to continue to serve the people of the county on an “as needed” basis.”

He says his background in law enforcement has prepared him well to take on the roll of coroner.
