Long Lake fire chief position declared vacant; Town board chair says ‘illegal meeting’

Tensions were high at a special meeting of the Town of Long Lake on Monday evening. The town hall was packed with citizens with questions about an agenda that included declaring the volunteer fire chief position vacant and suspending ambulance service.
The meeting was called to order but due to some irregularities with posting and the agenda, Chairman John Rodaer declared the meeting illegal and banged the gavel to adjourn. Rodaer told the board and visitors that state statutes require the agenda be posted in three public locations and the media notified by the board. In this case, the media was not notified directly by the board, so he said that oversight meant the meeting should not take place.
